At Try & Review, we believe that every review counts — not just in sentiment, but in substance. In 2024, we once again analyzed hundreds of thousands of user-generated reviews across countries, genders, and product categories to better understand how much users choose to share when leaving feedback.
This year’s findings reveal compelling shifts in review behavior and reaffirm the power of detailed feedback in shaping both consumer decisions and brand strategies. Consumers are increasingly influenced by rich, descriptive reviews to guide their choices — a trend especially visible in Southeast Asia, where 57% of consumers found the product with the most helpful and detailed reviews to be the most convincing, according to our 2025 Review Perception & Purchase Influence Report.
Which Countries Are the Most Expressive?
This year, Singapore emerges at the top of the list with the longest average review length — 246 characters — closely trailed by the Philippines (242) and Australia (233). These countries consistently show high consumer engagement, often providing more descriptive and informative feedback. On the other end of the scale, Brazil had the shortest reviews on average at just 85 characters.
Review length can reflect cultural habits around feedback, trust in platforms, or simply user enthusiasm. Regions with longer reviews often have a more established community of reviewers who see value in sharing their experiences in depth.

That said, female review lengths are gradually increasing in several markets. While typically more concise, they continue to offer focused, insightful feedback that adds strong value across categories.

Methodology & Notes
All reviews included in this report were collected and approved on the Try & Review platform in 2024. Only countries with a minimum of 1,000 approved reviews were analyzed. Review lengths were standardized to English equivalents using ITI’s translation length adjustment methodology to ensure a fair comparison across multilingual content. A minimum threshold of 50 characters per review remains in place on the platform to maintain quality and relevance.
A Quick Look Back: How 2024 Compares to 2023
While overall patterns remain stable, 2024 reveals a few notable shifts. Malaysia saw strong growth in review length across both genders, suggesting higher user engagement. Thailand and Brazil followed similar upward trends, while South Africa and Australia recorded shorter reviews on average this year.
In terms of gender, men still tend to write longer reviews, but in several markets, women are catching up — leaving more detailed feedback than before. Finally, categories like “Home”, “Electronics”, and “Health” continue to generate the most in-depth reviews, showing that users are more expressive when it comes to complex or personal products.
What This Means for Brands
Longer reviews often mean more detailed experiences, more contextual feedback, and ultimately more value for both brands and shoppers. As consumer voices grow louder and more detailed, understanding the nuances of review behavior has never been more crucial. For brands, knowing which markets or segments tend to leave richer feedback can inform sampling strategies, product development, and community-building. For users, detailed reviews enhance decision-making and build trust — proving once again that the length of a review isn’t just a number — it’s a window into the consumer mindset.
